A system that is gradually being implemented in many large French cities. In Nantes, and , users can now pay their city parking subscription based on their income. Thus, some benefit from reduced rates of 30% to 90%. In the town of -Atlantique, this measure has existed for more than a year now, to the delight of residents.

“That everyone pays, on the other hand, is rather good news. Afterwards, if we can actually rank according to each person’s income, that’s good.”entrusts one of them to TF1 Info. “For those who don’t have the means, why not”adds another. In Nantes, of the 20,000 registered subscribers, a quarter benefit from this solidarity rate while the full price is 180 euros. “We have two cars. We pay 18 euros for each car, per year”explains Marianne, or less than five cents per day.

In Nantes, “an incentive and positive policy”

While Nantes has doubled its number of paying places in the space of a few years in order to increase the rotation of parked vehicles, this system is moving in the direction of change. “Make it easier for residents to park and encourage visitors to park outside, without penalizing them. We are rather in an incentive and positive policy, hence the solidarity pricing”assures Denis Talledec, traffic and parking deputy at the city of Nantes.

If some large cities have already implemented this practice, others should soon follow. “My feeling is that it’s a bit off. I think that other cities are clearly looking at the system and I think that this type of pricing will spread”explains Éric Gantelet, parking expert, always with our colleagues. Indeed, the question of traffic in metropolises and therefore parking remains a central issue.
