“No, but can you imagine having a 6-story building in front of your house? 20 meters high, that'll do it! », exclaims Yves. The man lives in the housing estate located just behind Airbus Periporthas Blagnac. Leaving its courtyard, the building which was used, until last year, to receive customers to sign aircraft delivery contracts, will no longer exist.
The neighborhood heard about the construction of a 6-story building
Instead? “A hotel complex,” says Cécile, another local resident. That’s what we were told.” At the end of September, the mother received a presentation leaflet from Novaxiaan investor operator specializing in urban recycling. “We were also told about coworking, a restaurant… Does that mean there will be more people? Will a parking lot see the light of day? Many questions arise,” adds Cécile.
Questions, but also fears which are diffused in this very residential area, only with individual houses. So much so that Yves, one of the owners, took up the subject. He organized the arrival of a number of local residents to a meeting to present the project organized by Novaxia on Monday December 16, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., in Odyssud, to which the mayor of Blagnac was also invited.
And at this meeting, the Blagnacais does not intend to sit idly by, he warnsToulouse news. Yet, Joseph Carles, the mayor of Blagnac, firmly assures Toulouse News: “Nothing has been done. We have not validated the project presented.” Will a hotel complex really see the light of day? What is happening on this former Airbus site?
Airbus leaves its land to a developer…
On site, the places are deserted. Airbus left the Periport building in December 2023. “We haven't used it for several months. Since we built what we call terminal D, the C80 building, next to the Colomiers delivery center, we no longer need it,” the aircraft manufacturer confirms.
After more than a decade of occupation, Airbus then packed up, emptying all of the offices. Quickly, “since we were renting,” assures the company. It was the European fund Catalyst which until then owned the plot.
The latter was recently sold to the promoter Novaxiathus setting the stage for a large-scale and innovative project for Blagnac…
A huge coliving and coworking
On this plot, Novaxia supports the project of The Babel Community, a company present in many metropolises. Here she imagines a hybrid residence between hotels and coworking, with parking lots.
According to Novaxia, joined by Toulouse News it will have approximately 200 rooms and suites, but also apartments with kitchens for short and medium stays.
Where we had 300 workers who came and left every day by car, we will now have an activity that is out of sync with traffic flows. We will rather have arrivals around 4-5 p.m. and departures around 7 a.m.
The building would also include shared offices as well as a space dedicated to catering, a swimming pool and a gym, “accessible to the public and not only to customers of the hotel section”, underlines Romain Ferré.
A building permit filed
“We have vacant offices, an office rental market that is suffering and people who no longer want to be tenants. The idea of this company is to offer new ways of living. It is a project of cohabiting », Comments the mayor.
Expected start date for work? July 2025. Yes, but there is indeed a problem according to Joseph Carles. “The company has filed a building permit
on September 30 without having discussed with local residents. »
“Nothing has been stopped,” reassures the mayor
The elected official does not wish to express himself further. “We are in the process of examining the building permit. What I can say, he insists, is that nothing has been decided regarding the proposal made by Novaxia.”
The concerns of Periport's neighbors have indeed reached the mayor's ears.
It's the height that's scary. I understand. But people will still have to get used to it because with the climate and resilience law which prevents us from waterproofing the soil, we can no longer spread out. So you have to go up.
An elevation that Novaxia also defends with'News Toulouse.“This is a positive point since it will create an acoustic barrier between local residents and the boulevard full of traffic. »
It remains to be seen whether the people of Blagnac are ready to take this height and accept the concession of living with a new landscape. What’s more, “less sunny”, they regret.
