The 25th day of racing in the Vendée Globe, this Thursday, December 5, was marked by the abandonment of Louis Burton (Bureau Vallée), victim of serious mechanical damage.
Charlie Dalin widens the gap
Charlie Dalin, in the lead, and Sébastien Simon, 2nd, are trying to move forward as quickly as possible, so as not to be caught up by a violent depression that awaits them. Thanks to their admittedly risky strategy, the two men widened the gap on their pursuers, Yoann Richomme (3rd) and Thomas Ruyant (4th), further north. The leading men have increased their lead by more than 200 miles since Wednesday morning, and the gap could continue to widen until Friday, when the winds should begin to calm down slightly.
Isolated from the fleet of drift boats, Louis Burton is on his way to Cape Town, South Africa, after his abandonment was made official during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The Saint-Malo skipper did not want to take any unnecessary risks when approaching the South Seas, while his boat was severely affected.
