Emmanuel Macron, who has ruled out resigning before the end of his mandate in thirty months, will appoint “in the coming days” a Prime Minister responsible for training “a government of general interest”he announced this Thursday evening in a televised speech. The President of the Republic spoke the day after censorship of Michel Barnier's government and a few hours after the resignation of the Prime Minister.
The head of state acknowledged that his decision to dissolve the National Assembly in June “was not understood”assuming “his responsibility”. This decision, “many have blamed me for it and I know, many continue to blame me for it. It’s a fact and it’s my responsibility,” affirmed the President of the Republic.
Accusing the far right and the far left of uniting “in an anti-republican front”he recalled that “whatever happens”there cannot be legislative elections “before 10 months” and called on political forces to “work together”. Faced with a fractured National Assembly, he promised to appoint “in the coming days” a Prime Minister responsible for forming a government “tight”. This future head of government, “I will charge him with forming a government of general interest representing all the political forces of an arc of government which can participate in it or, at the very least, which undertakes not to censor it”explained the President of the Republic.
While a growing number of political leaders are calling for or discussing his resignation, Emmanuel Macron assured that he would fulfill his mandate “fully, to the end” : “The mandate that you democratically entrusted to me is a five-year mandate and I will exercise it fully until its end”declared the President of the Republic.
