Nearly 24 hours after government censorship, Emmanuel Macron addresses the nation in a speech.
While a Prime Minister had not been censored since 1962, his word is more than ever expected by political personnel, observers and the French in general.
But what will he be able to say in this unprecedented situation? Emmanuel Macron was due to arrive at his speech with the name of Prime Minister. Finally, no names will be known this Thursday evening.
Two are circulating with more insistence: Sébastien Lecornu, omnipresent in the media, and François Bayrou, with whom the President had lunch this afternoon.
Announcements, inventory of the current political crisis, or even resignation of the head of state… actu.fr allows you to follow the President of the Republic’s speech live.
8 p.m. – Emmanuel Macron speaks live
“Yesterday the National Assembly voted to reject the Social Security budget and censure the government of Michel Barnier. Today the Prime Minister tendered his resignation to me, I took note of it. I want to thank Michel Barnier for his dedication and his pugnacity, he lived up to his dedication when so many others were not,” begins Emmanuel Macron, in his speech.
Emmanuel Macron returned to the dissolution of the National Assembly last June, a decision “which was not understood, I admit”.
7 p.m. – No name of Prime Minister known this evening
While he is due to speak at 8 p.m. this Thursday evening, the day after the censorship of the Barnier government, Emmanuel Macron will not announce the name of the next Prime Minister this evening, according to a source close to the President at l’AFP.
However, several names are circulating this Thursday, including that of the boss of MoDem François Bayrou, the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, and even the former socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.
