The Russian chief of staff and his American counterpart spoke by telephone on November 27, Moscow announced Thursday, a first according to Russian state media, in the midst of escalating Russian-Western tensions.
“On November 27, at the initiative of the Russian side, a telephone conversation took place” between Valeri Gerassimov and Charles Brown, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
This is the first time that the two soldiers have had a telephone conversation since the appointment of Charles Brown as chief of staff of the American army in October 2023, according to the Russian state agency Tass.
“During this exchange, the American side was informed of the holding of (military) exercises in the Eastern Mediterranean” by the Russian army, it is specified in the press release from the Russian ministry.
Moscow said publicly on Tuesday that it had carried out exercises involving more than 1,000 soldiers and missile launches, including hypersonic Zirkon, in the eastern Mediterranean, without however specifying when they took place.
