According to information reported by the site MTVa notable incident occurred at Beirut International Airport. A French general, member of the Ceasefire Observation and Supervision Commissionarrived in Lebanon accompanied by a military detachment. The latter was in possession of sensitive material, including weapons, military equipment and communications devices.
However, the Lebanese authorities, in particular the security services airport securityrefused entry of this material. The reason given is the absence of a prior authorization emanating from the Council of Ministers. This decision led to a diplomatically delicate situation, where only the entry of people was authorized, while the equipment was returned to France.
The role of the supervisory commission
The Ceasefire Supervision Commissionto which this general belongs, plays a crucial role in maintaining stability in sensitive areas, notably South Lebanon, where the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 has been applied since 2006. This resolution imposes a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, with active monitoring of the military activities of each party.
-The equipment transported by the delegation could have been intended to strengthen the operational capacities of this commission, particularly in terms of secure communication and crisis management. However, the lack of transparency or coordination with the Lebanese authorities raises doubts about the method used and the scope of this mission.
