In the world of Basketball, nothing is worse than a defeat suffered at the buzzer. So when a French club, like ASVEL, inflicts it on a legendary club like Real Madrid, we cannot be in a good mood.
We do not condone this end of the ASVEL match
The Euroleague is in full swing this December. And among the posters on the program, ASVEL hosted the immense Real Madrid, eleven-time winner of the most prestigious European competition, an unrivaled record. But obviously more is needed to intimidate the French. Indeed, the players of Tony Parker's club won the first two quarters, to lead 51-43 at the break. If the match seems to be in their pocket, returning from the locker room is sure to make their enthusiasm explode.
The French took a sublime 23-8 in the third, to find themselves seven lengths behind the Madrilenians ten minutes from time. But the finish of this match will haunt us for many days. While the two teams find themselves tied 1.8 seconds from the end of the match (78-78), the last possession is in favor of ASVEL. And Théo Maledon's teammates commit the unforgivable; Paris Lee receives the ball and scores the winning shot at the buzzer. 80-78 victory over Real Madrid, without the Spaniards having the possibility of reacting behind. Intolerable.
And as if this buzzer beater wasn't enough, ASVEL puts an end to a curse against Real Madrid that dates back to 2003. An evening to forget as quickly as possible.
