For several months, Volodymyr Zelensky’s men have been present on Russian soil in the Kursk oblast. Although Putin’s soldiers increased their attacks, Russian losses were considerable.
While the war between Ukraine and Russia has raged for almost three years, the fighting between the two countries has not weakened. Against all odds, Volodymyr Zelensky’s men led an incursion on Russian soil last August. Since then, attacks by the Kremlin’s armed forces have been daily in an attempt to dislodge the enemy, in vain, reports Geo.
A deadly road for the Russians
In several months, Ukraine has lost ground, almost 40%, according to a military source cited by France24. “Today we control about 800 square kilometers. We will hold this territory for as long as it is militarily appropriate.”she indicates.
Despite a lack of men at the front which is beginning to be felt by Russia, Vladimir Putin has decided to use major means. During the month of November, there were nearly 50,000 Russian soldiers, according to the Ukrainian president, around the territory of Kursk held by kyiv. Among them, more than 10,000 are North Korean soldiers, sent by Pyongyang, as part of a strengthening of ties between Putin and Kim Jong-Un.
If Ukraine seems to show some signs of weakness on this front line, Russia suffers a considerable number of losses. Russian military and armored vehicles travel along the Zelenyi Shlyakh route, “tiny hamlet that looks out over the border to the south, the Ukrainian oblast of Sumy”notes the magazine Geo. And this road has become more than dangerous for the French army.
“The fields are mined, the road is targeted by our artillery and every movement is carefully monitored”commented the 225th Ukrainian assault battalion at the end of November to Forbes. This road was nicknamed “the highway of death” due to the hundreds of Russian vehicles destroyed. It is about“a trap for Russian forces”.
There are up to 6 Russian attacks per day, but Ukraine uses its entire arsenal to defend itself. Mines, artillery, drones… All means are good to put the “BMP and BMD tracked combat vehicles, MT-LB armored tractors and Buran armored trucks”.
Ukraine begins the month of December in difficult conditions. Recently, Russia carried out a large-scale offensive mainly targeting energy infrastructure, cutting off electricity to millions of civilians. The winter promises to be particularly harsh.
