A large fire brigade was deployed on Wednesday December 4 at the commercial port of Brest, at the foot of the Bunge silos, the world leader in oilseed processing. The alert was given between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. after a fire was noted in one of the drying towers of the industrial site, specialized in the importation of soybeans and the manufacture of meal for animal feed. There were no injuries.
“The fire is contained”assures us the director of Bunge France. Only cereals were destroyed. Around forty firefighters were sent to the scene, “this is the usual procedure”explains Brest sub-prefect Jean-Philippe Setbon. Behind the gate, we could see a dozen SDIS vehicles early in the morning, including one with the large ladder deployed.
Less serious than the 2019 disaster
The industrial group, based in Missouri in the United States, assures that the event has nothing to do with the fire of a silo on February 27, 2019which had left its mark in Brest. The combustion then lasted 17 days. This Wednesday around 9:30 a.m., a drone flew over the installations. Firefighters are currently maintaining their equipment on site as a precaution.
