F1: the Dutch Grand Prix will disappear from the calendar after the 2026 season

The home Grand Prix of Dutch Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen (27) will end in 2026, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

“We have decided to leave in style with two more incredible Dutch Grands Prix in 2025 and 2026”said GP director Robert van Overdijk in a statement.

The Dutch Grand Prix has been held since 2021 in the windswept seaside resort of Zandvoort on the North Sea coast.

Hundreds of thousands of orange-clad Dutch fans crowd the small town to cheer on their hero Verstappen who, until this year, has won every race on his home circuit. This year’s edition saw a bit of a slowdown in its run to the world championship, as it endured a difficult weekend with changeable weather, losing to Lando Norris sur sa McLaren.

Van Overdijk told national broadcaster NOS that there was “several options on the table” to continue organizing the Dutch GPas Formula 1 looks to expand into new markets.

“We could have alternated with other circuits, there was also the possibility of continuing to organize the GP every year”said Mr Van Overdijk. But ultimately the decision was made to end the race after the 2026 edition, he added. “We’re leaving with a bang. Of course, it also makes us a little sad, but more than anything, we’re proud.”

He recognized the role that Verstappen had played a role in the success of the Grand Prix. “In 2026 we will close an iconic chapter in the history of Dutch sport. Max Verstappen has of course been a great driving force in this regard”he declared. “Above all, let’s enjoy the two racing weekends we have left.”

The Dutch Grand Prix 2025 will take place from August 29 to 31. “I am incredibly grateful to the Dutch Grand Prix team for the work they have done over the last few years”said Stefano DomenicaliChairman and CEO of Formula 1.
