The mayor calls him himself “New generation Sportica”. Almost a year later the fire which completely destroyed the basketball hall of Gravelines on Christmas Day, we know more about the reconstruction timetable. The town hall has just obtained authorization to clear the site. “If everything goes well”BCM supporters will be able to return to encourage their team in Gravelines early 2028selon Bertrand Ringot.

A room with 4,000 seats in 2028

The legal expert has just given his agreement to begin deconstruction of the site. This will begin in March, at an estimated cost of around 3.4 million euros. This project will last nine months because there are 25,000 square meters of surface area to be cleared and asbestos removed. Then, construction work on a new room will begin in 2026, opening to the public two years later.

For this new complex, the town hall has thought big: a room with 4,000 seatswhen the old Sportica only contained 2,700 (and 800 standing). “It’s a sports hall, shows, seminars, fairs, exhibitions, exhibitions. We have also just launched a study to see what we are going to imagine around this setting. I am keen to make a commercial food equipment. A mini-market! That’s missing in Petit-Fort-Philippe. It’s an idea, we also want to have a medical office.”explained Bertrand Ringot.

And the swimming pool?

The project is estimated at 35 million euros, we still have to wait to know the amount of compensation paid by the insurance companies. The complex will be designed by the architect Jacques Ferrier, it was he who notably built the Orléans basketball hall.

And the swimming pool? For the moment nothing has been decided yet. Two options are still on the table. It could be rebuilt in the same place, “but we would be limited in terms of space”explains the mayor. The other idea would be located at the Paarc of the banks of the Aa.
