Residents of rue des Jonquilles in Eslettes, north west of Rouen, are asking for improvements to reduce traffic in their street, a small but narrow two-way municipal road, 350 meters long. This road is used every day by nearly 900 vehicles, according to a count carried out using ground sensors by the roads department of the Seine-Maritime departmental council in June 2023. During peak hours, in the morning between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and in the evening between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., nearly 90 vehicles use this small street every hour.
It is a place of passage between the A 151 motorway and the northern plateau of Rouen according to local residents, and the traffic spoils their lives.

Patricia Renault has lived on rue des Jonquilles for 36 years. She estimates that traffic has increased tenfold over the past 4 or 5 years. She points to the Waze GPS application which directs vehicles towards their small street, like a shortcut.

The Seine-Maritime department recognizes that traffic is not suitable for this municipal road. François Bellouard is the deputy general director of the planning and mobility division at the department. He believes that an additional study should be carried out to find out where motorists come from and where they go.

The town hall could, for example, install “no entry except local residents” signs, explains François Bellouard, deputy general director of the development and mobility center of the Seine-Maritime department, but this must be a decision of the municipality. Contacted by France Bleu Normandie, the Eslettes town hall has not responded, at this time, to our interview requests.
