New day of blockages for taxis in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region mobilized en masse in Lyon and the agglomeration since Monday, December 2, 2024. After a first day of dams and snail operations on the highways around Lyon, at the entrances to hospital establishments and Place Bellecour, the system will be similar this Tuesday, December 3.
Blockages, in the same places as the day before, will be put in place in the urban area and around the metropolis from 6 a.m. this Tuesday morning as well as in front of Lyon hospitals.
They are protesting against the new CNAM (National Health Insurance Fund) agreement concerning medical transport, which they consider “unsustainable”.

12:20 p.m.: The A42 and the A42 unblocked but the ring road blocked
Two blockages were lifted at the end of the morning: the A42 and the A43. But angry taxis are now blocking the Laurent Bonnevay ring road at Bron, route de Genas. The ring road is blocked in both directions of traffic.
10:50 a.m.: The blockages will be lifted
Taxis are still at motorway blockages but taxis will quickly break camp. The blockages should be released quickly, according to our information. Pascal Wilder recognizesnews Lyon that there is no question of going into a standoff with the CRS deployed by the prefecture.
There are around 300-350 taxis mobilized this morning.
The convoys of taxis mobilized on the highways at the entrances to Lyon will then reach the Lyon hospitals for the filter dams. For the moment, we are not moving towards a gathering at Place Bellecour like Monday evening.
10:45 a.m.: Lower mobilization this Tuesday morning
The mobilization was less Tuesday morning, even in the opinion of taxi drivers.
“We are much less than yesterday, we cannot afford to strike for a long time, for some of our customers it is vital that they are transported, those who have dialysis, chemotherapy,” declared to the ‘AFP Pascal Wilder, a taxi driver for 44 years, installed in front of the Edouard Herriot hospital in Lyon, with a few dozen fellow demonstrators.
9:39 a.m.: The blockage of the A43 continues
Taxis are still blocking the A43 at Saint-Priest in one direction of traffic, towards Lyon. One lane is open and remains accessible, particularly for emergency vehicles.
Traffic remains complicated in the Lyon metropolitan area on the main roads. Coraly (Traffic Coordination and Regulation of the Lyon Conurbation) still has 41 kilometers of traffic jams, the situation being “degraded”.
8:43 a.m.: CRS will free traffic lanes
The Rhône prefecture announces that CRS and “national police personnel” will be deployed to “free up traffic lanes at several blockage points”.
on the A46 at the Sermenaz descent
on the A42 at the Les Îles node
on the A43 at Porte des Alpes
on the A7 / D301 interchange
7:15 a.m.: first two blocking points
The first partial blockage points are held by taxis:
- M6, at the Valvert interchange (Tassin-la-Demi-Lune);
- on the interchange between the A450 and the A7.
Be careful when approaching these areas. Strong slowdowns are expected.
“The police are mobilized to ensure the safety of all users and preserve the maintenance of a traffic lane,” indicates the Rhône prefecture.
Convoys are likely to arrive from other neighboring departments.
5:30 a.m.: The new blocking points this Tuesday
Like this Monday, here are the main blocking points planned for this Tuesday, from 6 a.m.
- M6, at the Valvert interchange (Tassin-la-Demi-Lune);
- Les Îles node interchange (A42 – A46 – Eastern ring road);
- A43, near Saint-Priest – Porte des Alpes;
- A7/A450 interchange;
- A7, near the interchange with the southern urban boulevard (D301).
More than 1,500 taxis mobilized Monday
Abdel Green, president of the Federation of Independent Taxis of the Rhône (FTI69) assured AFP on Monday evening that “the day went well, no altercation. We made as many people aware as possible.” “This evening, as planned, we are bivouacing on Place Bellecour, and we are going to see (…) if we sleep there, or if we put an end to the movement. It will depend on the vote of the demonstrators.”
According to him, more than 1,500 taxis participated throughout the day in blockages or slowdowns at several access points in the Lyon metropolitan area.
