In a statement from the town of Nahariya, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented his vision for the future of northern Israel during a government meeting. Faced with current security challenges, he affirmed his determination to radically transform the situation in the region.
“We will not return to the situation of October 6 – neither drip, nor zigzags,” Netanyahu said firmly, referring to the chronic tensions that prevailed before the current escalation. This promise is accompanied by an ambitious development plan for the region of the country.
The government is preparing a global program which notably includes the maintenance of tax advantages, the development of industrial zones and the construction of a marina in Nahariya. These projects aim to revitalize the local economy, hard hit by security tensions. Regarding the ongoing ceasefire, Netanyahu stressed that it was not the end of the conflict. “We are applying this ceasefire with an iron fist,” he said, recalling the Israeli response against more than 20 targets in Lebanon following a recent violation. The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to thank US President-elect Donald Trump for his strong statement on the hostage issue, emphasizing Hamas' responsibility. “Anyone who harms our hostages will pay with their lives,” he warned, reaffirming Israel’s commitment to their release. An emotional moment marked the meeting when Netanyahu paid tribute to Captain Omer Neutra, a recently fallen armored officer. He praised his commitment and his exemplary journey, symbolizing the sacrifice made for the defense of the country.
The mayor of Nahariya, Ronen Marli, warmly welcomed this government visit, praising the “responsible and powerful” management of the crisis by the authorities. For the residents of this border town, which lost four of its citizens in the conflict, these government commitments represent hope for a return to a normal and prosperous life. This delocalized government meeting sends a strong message of support to the populations of the North, promising not only a return to normal, but also a more prosperous future for this strategic region of Israel.
