On November 21, in Caen, the first edition of the Stars of Europe in Normandy saw projects as brilliant as they were varied. Among them, the company Veragrowbased in Val-de-Reuil, won the prize in the research and innovation category with its project Stimagro. And if this name intrigues you, wait until you meet the real stars of the show: their 25 million earthworms devouring organic waste.
“We produce very high quality vermicompost using a unique method in France.“, they explain. Thanks to their crawling allies, they transform coffee grounds, beer spent grains or even horse manure into a raw material that is as precious as it is ecological.
Earthworms + science = agricultural boom
But at Veragrow, we don’t stop there. Their vermicompost is the basis of a range of innovative biostimulants, designed for all types of agriculture, from organic to conventional. Three flagship products are already on the market:
- Veraleaf, a spray to boost plant growth.
- Veraspida, a seed coating that promises record germination.
- Veraterra, a fertilizer to revive the most damaged soils.
And it works! Tests carried out in France, but also in Brazil and Africa, show significantly increased yields and increased resilience in the face of climatic challenges.
Why is it great?
Beyond their agronomic performances, Veragrow products drastically reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, which are often expensive and polluting. Best of all, they help soils retain water and regenerate naturally, even after periods of infertility.
When innovation rhymes with expansion
Since its creation in 2019, Veragrow has doubled its workforce and is now tackling theinternational. Their products appeal to cooperatives and farmers looking for sustainable solutions. With this European distinction, the team hopes to continue its development and, who knows, convince even more people that earthworms are the future.
So, the next time you come across an earthworm in your garden, tell yourself that it is perhaps one of the essential links in greener agriculture.
