It was in a good-natured, relaxed atmosphere and fueled by numerous applause that the elected officials took the oath in turn. Then it was Christian Verdin, dressed to the nines in his blue three-piece, who then took the oath again, this time as mayor, a moment followed by a round of applause which lasted a very long time. He wore the mayoral sash, with some difficulty, which caused laughter in the assembly while his daughter came to the rescue… Then the college was installed: Rébecca Licher, first alderwoman and new face in politics, Yvon Rollin and Marianne Dupont, outgoing aldermen and Raphaël Lambotte, outgoing councilor. Pascale Schmitz, president of the CPAS, will take the oath later. But Christian Verdin wanted the public to cheer him too.
As expected, Ferr’Ensemble councilor Pierre Marichal, who no longer wished to sit, was replaced by Mallika Abraham but retained for professional reasons, she was absent and will take the oath at the next session.
As for the presidency of the council, it was assigned to councilor Freddy Gridelet (C@pCitoyens), a novelty since until now, it was the mayor who was in charge. “I hope that the debates will be conducted as they have always been: serious and correct”he said.
The session closed, the new mayor wanted to speak: “I would like to thank Frédéric Léonard for all the work done for our commune, during six years as alderman and then 12 years as mayor. I suspect that this moment is not very pleasant but democracy has done its work and the citizens have decided.”
He also returned to his group C@pCitoyens “made up of beautiful people, united around beautiful human values. Our team becomes number 1 in the Commune. Today, it is with pride that I become mayor, surrounded by a dynamic, serious, ambitious and smiling college.”
This Tuesday morning, the first concrete step for the new mayor and his aldermen: they will hold their very first college of the legislature. “Before that, we made an appointment with the works department to present the works alderman, explains. Same thing for Rébecca Licher and Pascale Schmitz who are going to tour the CPAS. We plan to go to all the departments of the Municipality then start the first college at 10 a.m. With Yvon and Marianne, experienced aldermen, we will be able to start immediately… We are confident.
