This African country, a member of BRICS, takes the lead in the G20

The G20 member countries elected a new leader at the beginning of December 2024. The term lasts for one year and runs from December 2024 to November 2025.

The country chosen for this principal is South Africa. This is the first time that an African country has taken the helm of the organization. The G20 gives us a platform to pursue these collective goals. South Africa adopted the theme “Solidarity, equality and sustainability” for his presidency of the G20.

For South African President Cyril Ramaphosa: “South Africa’s presidency of the G20 comes at a time when the world faces serious challenges. The climate change crisis is getting worse…” can we read on the presidency’s X account.

Here is the procedure to follow

However, he goes on to state that “ Through solidarity, we can create an inclusive future that champions the interests of those most at risk of being left behind. »

The African Head of State thinks that this represents a necessity. He goes on to say that « dans an interconnected world, where the challenges faced by one nation affect all nations. Disparities in wealth and development within and between countries are unfair and unsustainable. »

For him, “ sustainability involves meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

“In line with our theme, we will seek to strengthen and advance the international effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. South Africa’s presidency will be the first time that an African country will chair the G20”.

The objectives of the new leader

President Cyril Ramaphosa: “In promoting equality, we strive to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunity for all individuals and all nations. We seek to eliminate divisions based on economic status, gender, race, geography or any other characteristic. »

Taking this position carries great responsibility. The organization “brings together many of the world’s largest developed and developing economies”he explains, still on » working together with G20 members and building partnerships within society » he will seek to “mobilize global will and skills to meet these challenges”.

He concludes by saying that they aspire “to a fairer and more egalitarian world, a world in which poverty and hunger will no longer exist”. Thus, they all want to avoid the worst effects of climate change and to preserve the planet for future generations.
