War in Ukraine: 1.3 billion euros in military aid in a single day, Washington and Berlin still leading Kyiv’s support

The two countries announced this new aid during the day on Monday.

Four days after Volodymyr Zelensky said he was ready to make concessions if NATO protects the territories controlled by kyiv, Ukraine received on Monday December 2 two lifelines from its two largest suppliers of military aid since the Russian invasion, namely the United States and Germany.

Out of breath since the election of Donald Trump to the White House raised fears of a halt to American aid, and at a time when Ukrainian forces are retreating on the front, kyiv could not ask for better.

“Solidarity”

To express his “solidarity with Ukraine”, it was first German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, on a surprise visit to Kyiv, who announced this Monday support amounting to 650 million euros. Drones, Iris-T air defense systems, Leopard 1A5, M84 and M80 tanks, guided and unguided missiles… Artillery, which does not include long-range Taurus missiles (these have the capacity to travel 500 km) as requested by Zelensky, should be delivered to Ukraine this December.

On the same day, the United States promised kyiv to provide it with new weapons, for 725 million dollars, or 690 million euros. Here, the Americans promise in particular Stinger missiles, ammunition for HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, drones and mines. A new gesture from Joe Biden, who is now counting his days in the Oval Office.

In total, and over a single day, military aid granted to kyiv by Germany and the United States amounts to 1.340 billion euros.
