The mines are located in the provinces of Mondulkiri, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Battambang. According to Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, the companies operating them have provided employment to nearly 11,300 Cambodians, including 1,000 women.
Around 3,361 kg of refined gold was exported in the first 10 months of 2024.
Cambodia doesn't just have gold. There is coal in Stung Treng, granite in Kratie, aluminum in Mondulkiri and silver in Preah Vihear. Mineral sand (containing rare ores) can be found along waterways. Gold can also be found in Oddar Meanchey, and limestone used for cement production in Battambang and Kampot. Building minerals can be mined in Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu, whose soil also contains coal.
As of the third quarter of this year, Cambodia's mineral resources were exploited by 555 licensed companies, with a total investment of $2.76 billion.
The Kingdom exported more than 19 million cubic meters of river sand, 221,151 cubic meters of stone blocks, 3.49 million square meters of stone sheets, 527,695 tons of raw iron ore and 40,012 tons of raw manganese ore.
