1998: three members. 2018: forty members. 2024: 105 members. In almost thirty years the number of members of the weight room has multiplied by thirty-five.
“Initially we were a trio of bodybuilding enthusiasts. At the time of creation we met at the Maison pour tous, next to the temple”remembers William Laurent, the current municipal sports instructor. As such, he alerted his employer to the safety and well-being of the members of the club which is now located at the Paulhan space. “After Covid the number of members skyrocketed. The machines are too close. We lacked space.”
The municipality responded and work was undertaken to expand the adjoining weight training and climbing rooms. In total, €45,000 was invested.
No more than 150 members
Inaugurated in the wake of the pump tracks last month (November 16), the total area of the weights room is now 170 m2. The new 55 m2 space is currently being fitted out.
“We have installed everything related to cardio activity there. These are people who appreciate tranquility”explains William, a fine connoisseur of the members to whom he listens and advises in their practices. Two new devices, a connected bike and a rower are added to the existing devices. In the first room dedicated to bodybuilding, discussions on the choice of two new machines are underway.
The expansion is expected to spark new enthusiasm. “We will not be able to exceed 150 members”warns William Laurent. It is true that the room has its fans. Good humor and diversity reign there under the benevolent supervision of its manager. “Since we have expanded, we can accommodate boarders from the hotel high school who come in the evening after classes.”
They illustrate the words of councilor Pierre Aiguillon describing the work undertaken: “Sport is life.”
