For its thirtieth anniversary, the Playstation brand is pulling out all the stops with a surprise update to the Playstation 5 that will please nostalgic fans.
This Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Playstation celebrates its thirty years. The console was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994 and has since sold over 100 million copies with legendary titles like Grand Tourism, Crash Bandicoot or even Final Fantasy.
To satisfy the most nostalgic people who may not have been able to buy a collector's console, Sony has been offering an update for the Playstation 5 for a few hours. It allows you to activate a special 30th anniversary theme, which changes console splash screen.
A special 30th anniversary screen
Concretely, during the next restart, it is not the start screen of the PS5 that you will see, but that of the first Playstation of the name. Namely, the original logo and name of the video game division, Sony Computer Entertainment (which has since become Sony Interactive Entertainment). Then the 30th anniversary logo.
Likewise, when you completely turn off the console, a video plays thanking players “for being part of this adventure.” More generally, it is the console interface which has also received a specific skin.
At the same time, Playstation posted a video paying tribute to thirty years of video games.
When the first Playstation was released in 1994, Sony revolutionized the video game industry thanks to the format of its games, on CD, which notably allowed real-time 3D to become the standard.
