There has been a flaw for more than two months in one of the backup systems of Garmin GPS sports watches. Since November 29, the number of user reports has multiplied. On Reddit, Garmin has finally acknowledged the problem. However, there is no timetable for the fixes.
Something is stuck on Garmin watches. For more and more customers, an error message is displayed on their screen, blocking the interface and requiring a restart which unfortunately does not completely resolve the problem. American GPS sports watches have been experiencing backup difficulties for several months, a problem which has increased since last Friday, November 29, and which affects hundreds of thousands of athletes around the world.
The problem appears to come from a flaw in Garmin's Connect IQ platform, and the Storage.setValue() function. When an app or the watch face tries to make a backup, the watch freezes and restarting the device only provides a temporary solution. Many customers reported the problem on models like the Venu 3, the Forerunner 265, 295, but also the 965. Recent firmware updates would have exacerbated the problem.
Garmin recognizes the fault on its sports watches
Garmin has officially responded to the various reports by Internet users on the Reddit platform, after the community called to contact customer service as much as possible to report the problem. But the company simply acknowledged the problem, without adding fixes or providing a schedule for future updates. One thing is certain: the period is really not ideal, as the brand enters a crucial commercial period for its sales, with the end-of-year holidays.
At the same time, Coros is gaining market share, notably with its Coros Pace 3. Garmin can still count on its range of fields of activity with automobiles, aviation and marine: in March, the company unveiled very good figures for its year 2023, with a turnover of 5.2 billion dollars, up 8%. Despite everything, its outdoor activity showed stagnation at -1% in terms of turnover.
