Created in partnership with the City of Lille, this literary prize celebrated its 10th edition on November 30 and December 1, 2024. Since its creation, it has strived to promote stories that question the complex realities of exile and identity, while offering important recognition to the authors engaged in this reflection. Every early December, it crowns a significant work, highlighting the literary and human richness of these stories.
The jury, chaired by Françoise Objois, decided to reward José Vieira for his novel which tells us about his childhood memories, from exile to contemporary reflections, including the upheavals of the April revolution and the promises of a bright future, and retraces the history of his family.
From Portugal to the slums of Massy, from Romania to the Basque borders, he sketches a map imbued with revolt and militant commitment in a first story with poetry imbued with melancholy.
With visual writing deeply anchored in reality, Memories of a bright future celebrates freedom, tolerance and the transmission of memory. This book is an invitation not to forget, to resist exclusion, while bearing witness to a page in French history marked by cultural mixing, sharing and fraternity.
José Vieira succeeds Sabine Huynh, who, with her novel Elvis on the radio (Edition Maurice Nadeau 2022), was the winner of the prize in 2023.
