The Mauriac clock market is preparing to write a new chapter in its history. Meeting on Tuesday, November 26 in Salins, the community of municipalities of the country of Mauriac revealed an ambitious modernization project, supported by the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion (ANCT).
The infrastructure – 7,500m² of buildings and vast outdoor spaces – dates back around forty years and requires extensive renovation. Essential for the agricultural economy, the clock market has also represented a point of convergence, meetings and conviviality for 10 years. Aware of its strategic importance, local elected officials and partners are considering transforming the site into a true “third agricultural place”.
100% agricole
The offices and meeting rooms will be renovated to facilitate professional exchanges and accommodate the offices of players in the sector. There is a clear appeal to the Chamber of Agriculture to move its local branch there. The busy catering areas, particularly on sales days, will be redesigned to provide a setting suitable for major events in the agricultural world, such as seminars, general meetings or congresses.
The main objective of the project is to modernize the dilapidated buildings, while preserving the 100% agricultural vocation of the clock market site” Jean-Pierre Soulier, president of the Pays de Mauriac
To carry out this transformation, the ANCT will provide comprehensive support, integrating an analysis of territorial dynamics, partner needs and financing possibilities. The study will also make it possible to propose innovative management models and quantify the operating costs of future scenarios.
Mixed Syndicate of the Clock Market
This process, entirely financed by the ANCT to the tune of €43,300 excluding tax, will be entrusted to the Ernest & Young firm. The planned work will be spread over 6 to 8 months, with completion expected in 2025. In addition, the joint market union, chaired by Cyrille Rollin, has included in its budget the upgrading of the washing station (€400,000). ), photovoltaic panels and better rainwater recovery to move towards autonomy.
All the files examined that evening, including this one, were unanimously approved. At the end of the session, the office proposed the adoption of a motion in support of the agricultural world and against the EU/Mercosur agreements. Adopted unanimously, the mayor of Mauriac, Edwige Zanchi, nevertheless wanted to clarify her full support, “as long as there is no damage to public property”.
The station at the interco
Another building subject debated: the sale of the station by the Mauriacoise municipality to the community of communes. For what future? “We will find something to do with it,” promises the president, Jean-Pierre Soulier, referring pell-mell to a rental after renovation (the amounts of which remain to be estimated), to an electric bike rental company, to a refreshment bar manager and snacks… Because the building is in the immediate vicinity of the intercommunal greenway and already surrounded by plots owned by the com com. The estates estimated the value of the station at €45,900; Edwige Zanchi, mayor of Mauriac, will try to convince his municipal council to sell it below the estimate, at €35,000. Under these conditions, the intercommunal elected officials gave their agreement in principle.
