Android Smartphone Prices Will Rise in 2024: Here’s Why

Among the main models affected by this increase, we find the Xiaomi 15, Samsung Galaxy S25 et OnePlus 13.

The processor is one of the most complex and expensive parts of each smartphone, determining its final cost. It is obvious that flagship systems are the most expensive. In addition, their prices increase with each generation, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be no exception.

According to reports, the company Qualcommwhich makes Snapdragon processors, will increase the cost of its next SoC flagship by 10% to 20% depending on order size and chipset features. So if a Snapdragon Gen 3 costs manufacturers about $200, the Gen 4 will cost between $220 and $240, according to Wccftech.

Android smartphone manufacturers who will equip their devices with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will almost certainly pass these costs on to consumers. Another option would be to turn to MediaTeka competitor of Qualcomm, whose solutions are probably cheaper.

However, Samsung or Xiaomi never released their platform-based flagships MediaTekso it is unlikely that they will do so this time. It is more likely that many companies will find it better to raise prices while using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Smartphones that will work with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are not yet confirmed, but it is expected that the models Samsung Galaxy S25, OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15as well as the high-end models of Vivo et Oppowill see their prices increase.

More bad news is that we probably won’t see any affordable flagships based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. This applies to devices in the $400-$600 price range, which use Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line processor but save on other components to keep the price competitive. For example, the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro.

Regarding the new ones iPhone 16they should not become more expensive. In addition, the 16 Pro will no longer offer a version with 128GB of storage, but the base model with 256GB will still cost $1,000, the same price as theiPhone 15 Pro (128 Go).
