The Sète municipal council announced the creation of a new student residence, but the prices questioned certain members of the opposition.
With nearly 400 additional students expected in Sète at the start of the 2026 school year – there are already around a thousand – particularly with the creation of the Michèle Weil university center, the municipality seized the opportunity to create, in 2025, a service residence for students at 22 rue Denfert-Rochereau.

Even if there is no difficulty for them to find a roof over their heads on a singular island, the creation of these 18 accommodations (15 with free access, three with social access) will always be useful. But the price of between €460 and €600 made the elected opposition RN, Aurélien Lopez-Liguori, jump, believing that this made “particularly expensive”. He was told that these prices were in line with the market average. It is actually 550 €. “And they will have a laundromat as well as breakfast on the ground floor”said Blandine Authié, the first assistant.
