In addition to Russian activities, Moore cited other challenges, including rising tensions in the Middle East, continued threats from the Islamic State group, and strategic competition with China, which has been called “the primary geopolitical challenge of the 21st century.” These multiple fronts accentuate the need for Western intelligence services to strengthen their cooperation and innovate in their defense methods.
The Western response
The head of MI6 insisted on the importance of remaining united in the face of these threats, highlighting the “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States. He also stressed that Ukraine's sovereignty must not be compromised, describing the war in Ukraine as a testing ground for new military and technological tactics.
