The young Italian player from Fiorentina Edoardo Bove collapsed on Sunday in the middle of a match against Inter Milan, leading to the definitive interruption of this match on the 14th day of Serie A.
The 22-year-old midfielder suddenly collapsed after 16 minutes of play, appearing to be in convulsions, according to television images, causing astonishment throughout the stadium.
The player, on loan from Roma to Fiorentina, was evacuated and all the players and officials returned to the locker room. The two teams were then tied 0-0.
The Italian League then announced in a press release that the match was definitively stopped and would be rescheduled to “a date still undetermined”.
He regained consciousness
According to Sky Sport, Bove regained consciousness at the Careggi hospital, close to the stadium.
This unease has revived at Fiorentina the painful memory of the death of former captain Davide Astori in 2018, who died in his sleep at the age of 31 before a championship match against Udinese.
Last season, AS Rome Ivorian international Evan Ndicka, 25, suffered illness during the match against Udinese on April 14, 2024. He collapsed in the 70th minute while complaining of a sharp pain in the chest.
Roma, who finally won the match 2-1 replayed a few days later, explained that their player had suffered a collapsed lung, without any heart problem having been detected.
Naples solide leader
Inter, 3rd, and Fiorentina, 4th, are part of a quartet with Atalanta and Lazio on 28 points, four points behind leaders Napoli.
Napoli consolidated its first place by winning at Torino (1-0) thanks to a goal from the Scotsman Scott McTominay, served by the Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, author of a superb slalom between two Turinese defenders.
Naples could have increased the score if Torino's Serbian goalkeeper, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, had not made a series of high-class saves.
This success allows Antonio Conte's team to keep their pursuers at bay even if their runner-up from Bergamo can get closer in the event of success on Monday (8:45 p.m.) on the AS Roma pitch.
Juventus, currently 6th with 25 points, plays Sunday evening in Lecce (16th, 12 pts).
First victory for Genoa
Lazio lost at Parma (3-1) and found themselves fifth.
Patrick Vieira won his first match as Genoa coach by winning 2-0 at Udinese, reduced to ten men. The Genoese team (14th with 14 points) moves away from the red zone, three points behind first relegation Como.
Last weekend, for Vieira's first, Genoa could do no better than a 2-2 draw at home against Cagliari.
The former French international was named on the Genoa bench on November 20 in place of Alberto Gilardino, a few months after leaving Racing club Strasbourg, in Ligue 1.
