Manchester City midfielder Rodri insists his Ballon d'Or win is a “bottle of oxygen” in his recovery from injury as he targets a return this season.
Rodri is currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury and has had to watch City embark on their worst ever run under Pep Guardiola, having failed to win any of their last six games. However, the Spain international is hoping to make a spectacular comeback before the end of the season, and insists his Ballon d'Or win has only inspired him.
Rodri beat Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior for football's most prestigious individual award, sparking a backlash from the Brazilian's fans and teammates. Nonetheless, the defensive midfielder insists his price is a “oxygen bottle” as he tries to find his way back to the grounds.
Rodri finally breathes
Rodri told FourFourTwo: “Everything seems to be going well with my rehabilitation. It's good to spend time with my family here. The energy they give me is important, and it's been a long time since I've been home. Due to my injury, this award was like a bottle of oxygen for me. »
Regarding his return, he added: “ I want to come back this season, it would be important for me. I don't know if I can, but I would like to be involved for a month or two and finish the season. »
City next play Liverpool in what could prove to be a decisive match for their title ambitions. A defeat would put the Reds 11 points ahead of the leading champions.
