A motorcyclist in Barcelona paid dearly for his attempt to evade traffic authorities. The driver, who was traveling on busy Diagonal Avenue, was caught in the act while driving at 95 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. But speeding wasn't the only infraction: in an attempt to avoid being identified by radar, the motorcyclist used his hand to cover the motorcycle's license plate.
The maneuver, which the driver seemed to believe was sufficient to escape punishment, had the opposite effect. The photo captured by the radar clearly showed the hand hiding the license plate. This detail led the Barcelona Urban Guard to open an investigation which, contrary to expectations, resulted in the identification of the offender.
Two infractions, a historic fine
The consequences were severe. The motorcyclist faced a total fine of 6,400 euros, split between two separate offenses. First, speeding resulted in a penalty of 600 euros and the loss of six points on his driving license. However, the most serious offense was attempting to conceal the license plate. According to Article 77 of the Spanish Road Safety Law, covering a number plate is considered a very serious offense, as it can be interpreted as an attempt to manipulate or evade traffic control systems.
In this case, the fine for concealing the number plate was 6,000 euros, accompanied by six additional points removed from the driver's license. Authorities emphasize that these actions directly undermine road safety and law enforcement.
-A warning to other drivers
The Urban Guard wanted to share the case on social networks, presenting it as an example of how similar situations will be handled. The message is clear: any attempt to deceive the authorities will be punished in an exemplary manner.
This episode highlights the importance of obeying traffic regulations and warns of the financial and legal consequences of irresponsible behavior. Beyond the high cost of the fine, the driver in question now faces a significant penalty on his driving privileges.
