Launched in 2018, the “Move on prescription” system has enjoyed great success in Rochefort-du-Gard, among the first towns to have implemented it in Gard. Today, the town hall is strengthening it with the arrival of an external service provider.
He was Deputy for Sports at the time: mayor since 2020, Rémy Bachevalier remembers jumping as soon as the decree creating sport by prescription came out. “We first made sales representatives with health professionals to present the project to them, and it grew”he plays again.
The idea is to offer a sporting activity adapted to people suffering from long-term conditions and/or chronic illnesses, far removed from sporting activity. “We start with flexibility and cardio tests, we work all year and we do the same tests again at the end of the year, and in general we have very good results”explains the head of the town's sports department, Lionel Maldonado. The sessions are collective, but individualized depending on the condition of each participant. And prescription sport doesn't just do the muscles and joints good: “there is also a social component, it allows people suffering from pathologies to be less isolated”he adds.
And it pleases, so much that “the waiting list was long, people came to complain”says the mayor. So the town hall decided to strengthen the system with the arrival of Rochefort osteopath Neige Revol-Tissot as an external service provider, to be able to take on more beneficiaries. “For the moment, we have between 35 and 40 people, with two sessions per week”specifies Lionel Maldonado, who leads the system with the sports instructor and local manager of the system Yannick Bourdin.
For some, the extension may be health sports within the Qi Gong club or the Angles rugby club, the RCAGR.
