Advent books are a huge success thanks to social networks. But what does this consist of? Here are the recipes for this success.
Do you know the concept of “Advent book”? This is a new trend as the end of year holidays approach. The principle: one chapter to read per day until December 24. The chapters are sealed and must be opened on a daily basis. A format that had already existed for children's stories for several years and which is also starting to spread in literature for young people (adults). This is particularly the case with two successful Christmas romances.
It was a huge success
“Last year it was already out. But it was wildly successful, it worked straight away. There, we have a second title which has been released. Sales are exploding and they are going very quickly“, explains Sophie Brasseur, bookseller at the Librairie Molière in Charleroi. To prepare, the Librairie Molière therefore ordered these books in large numbers this year: more than 200 books were put on the shelves and several are sold every day. a trend that we have seen in particular on social networks, such as TikTok where young people film themselves discovering the new chapter. It’s the change that seduces, the innovative concept“.
It is a principle which was registered by the Auzou publishing house, even if other publishing houses are trying the principle by changing it a little (one short story per day, one comic strip per day).
According to the Auzou publishing house, last year, 20,000 copies were printed and all of them sold out (“Un coeur pour Noël”). The publishing house therefore prepared for the craze this year for the new work (“Santa”) with a print run of 100,000 copies (for the new book) of which 10,000 were sold in 3 days. The publishing house also re-released the book “A Heart for Christmas” in a standard version and a collector’s version, which sold, respectively, nearly 4,000 and around 2,000 units.
