Mother of Hamas hostage Matan Angrest announces sign of life from her son

Last night (Saturday), during the demonstration of hostage families in Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, Anat Angrest, Matan’s mother, said she had received a sign of life from her son.
Matan is a soldier and was abducted along with the bodies of two of his comrades, Daniel Peretz and Itay Hen, z’l, when their tank was attacked by Hamas terrorists on October 7. Matan was wounded and unconscious when he was taken by the terrorists to the Gaza Strip.

Anat, his mother, said that the IDF found a video of Matan in the Gaza Strip and passed it to him. “I am considered lucky among the families of the hostages,” she said, “I received a sign of life from Matan in a video that our soldiers found in Gaza. In this video, we see Matan, my son, with a wounded look in front of the camera, addressing you, Mr. Prime Minister. He shouts: “Netanyahu, I don’t understand how this could have happened, but I’m counting on you to get me out of here.” What a disappointment, Matan, the Prime Minister didn’t get you out there, you are not talked about, neither in the first wave of liberation, nor in the next one. The state for which you fought has decided that you will stay there. You are no longer a child since you are over 18 years old, you are not a woman, you are not an elderly person, you are not sick. You are “just” a soldier who sacrificed himself. So, you remain there, in the tunnels, in the darkness while you are wounded, bleeding, and who knows if you survive. I turn to you, Mr. Prime Minister Netanyahu and I remind you: Matan is a valiant soldier but he is above all a child who grew up in the State of Israel and on its values, who gave me the title of Mother 21 years ago. And you Netanyahu, you gave me the title of mother of a child hostage in hell, nine months ago.”
