Donald Trump on Saturday demanded that countries grouped under the acronym BRICS commit not to create a new currency or to support any currency likely to replace the dollar in international trade under penalty of being inflicted with duties 100% customs duty.
BRICS was formed around Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
“We demand a commitment from these countries that they will not create a new BRICS currency or support any other currency to replace the powerful US dollar otherwise they will face 100% tariffs and must wait to say goodbye to the prospect of selling into the great American economy,” the US president-elect wrote on his Truth Social network.
“They can try to find another ‘pigeon’. There is no chance that BRICS will replace the dollar in international trade and any country that tries to do so should say goodbye to America,” he said. -he added.
