Palme d'Or at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Anora has been unanimously acclaimed around the world since its theatrical release last October.
A modern tale
The cinematic year 2024 ends in style. Gladiator 2, L'Amour Ouf, The Substance… we find excellent films on display at the moment to best end this year punctuated by excellent releases. But if we had to pick just one during this period, it would surely be Anora, the latest film by Sean Baker, awarded the Palme D'or at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Led by the incredible Mikey Madison, Anora tells the story of the eponymous character, a New York stripper who sees her daily life turned upside down when she meets Ivan, the young son of a Russian oligarch. In a fit of madness, the two get married, but the dream turns into a nightmare when Ivan's parents hear the news and travel to the United States to have the marriage annulled.
A must see
If the Palme d'Or is certainly a guarantee of quality, Anora stands out among the latest films awarded at Cannes. Sean Baker's feature film is a total success, a modern tale in which the fantasies of a generation bottled up on the glitter of social networks are shattered in the face of a reality that is too hard to accept. Anora is a real emotional elevator that must be seen in theaters, a feature film that's funny to the point of tears, touching, fair, raw without being vulgar, a real nugget that everyone agrees with. On AlloCiné, the film obtained a press score of 4.2/5 and a spectator score of 3.9/5. Same story with our friends across the Atlantic, while on Rotten Tomatoes, Anora received a press score of 96% and a spectator score of 90%. A must-see masterpiece.
