Released at the end of June, the Suunto Race S connected watch is already benefiting from a nice price drop for Black Friday

The Finnish brand Suunto presented its Race S at the end of June, a lighter version of the classic Suunto Race. The watch gains in lightness and finesse, as does its price. It is priced at 349 euros at Boulanger and goes to 309 euros thanks to a little promo code that goes well during Black Friday.

Suunto is a brand of connected watches dedicated to sport, in the same way as what Garmin or Polar offers. The Suunto Race S has been available since June 2024 and offers a lite version of the Race with still attractive value for money. Not to mention, right now you can save over 10% off the price with a Black Friday promo code.

The highlights of the Suunto Race S

  • Integration of the Climb Guidance function for better monitoring of your excursions
  • The GPS and cardio sensors are extremely precise
  • Integrated mapping
  • A thin, lightweight design for discreet wear, ideal for small wrists

While it is normally sold for 349 euros on the Boulanger website, you can order it for 309 euros on Rakuten (via the seller Boulanger) with the promo code BOULANGER30.

A profitable slimming treatment

The Suunto Race S is a connected watch which was released around 8 months after the Suunto Race, of which it takes most of the characteristics, with a few concessions all the same, which justifies the price difference of 100 euros between the two models. Among the differences, you have water resistance which goes from 100 meters for the Suunto Race to 50 meters for the Suunto Race S. Or even a slightly reduced autonomy: allow around 40 hours in GPS mode or 9 days in standby mode. Of course, it all depends on what you use it for.

What is very appreciable, and this is highlighted in our in-house test where the Suunto Race S obtained a score of 9/10, is that the case is thin. Thinner than the base Race since it goes from 49 x 49 x 13.3 mm to 45 x 45 x 11.4 mm for this one. Even the weight is down: 83 g versus 60 g. But also thinner than what the competition offers: at Garmin, the “slim” fēnix 7 Pro model is 14 mm thick. In short, the watch is light, suitable for thin wrists and does everything soberly.

A connected watch dedicated to sport

What you need to know and keep in mind about the Suunto Race S is that it is a connected watch, certainly, but it does not have the features. In fact, you can’t call, respond to your text messages or anything else: you can just receive notifications.

On the other hand, and this is what we ask of a sports watch, it is equipped with numerous sensors for advanced health and training monitoring. So find a cardiac sensor, SpO2, a dual frequency GNSS chip and a barometric altimeter.

The watch counts your steps, tracks your heart rate and allows you to adapt your training, regardless of the activity you are doing. The watch is multisport and even supports external sensors for certain activities, such as running, cycling or even swimming.

Without forgetting that this watch integrates precise mapping, even if it lacks some options such as the possibility of superimposing information on the map, so as not to have to leave it to consult it. But when we know that the Garmin Forerunner 265 is sold for 150 euros more and does not include mapping, it’s hard to blame the Suunto Race S.
