Several animal associations mobilized this Saturday, November 30 in front of the Tête d'Or park to demand the closure of the zoo and the placement in shelters of the animals who live there.
They do not give up their fight. Sixteen associations mobilized this Saturday, November 30 in front of the gates of the Tête d'Or park to demand the closure of its zoo. Around twenty activists were present, and held up posters as well as a large banner with the inscription “For the closure of the Lyon zoo and the placement of animals in shelters”.
L214, the Stéphane-Lamart association, One Voice and Humanimo are among the associations mobilized. More than 300 animals live in the heart of the Tête d'Or, and are visible to visitors free of charge.
“Wild animals have no place in enclosures”, we can also read on a sign, a quote from Grégory Doucet in 2020, then candidate in the municipal elections. The associations had also already appealed to the mayor of Lyon in several ways to make their cause heard.
“The town hall still does not seem to want to move forward”
On October 31, a collective letter from the 16 associations was sent to the councilor asking him to initiate an action plan aimed at closing the zoo, which remained unanswered according to the PAZ association.
“The town hall still does not seem to want to move forward on the subject of the zoo. (…) The Free Life association has proposed placement solutions to the Town Hall for several animals, notably the Amur panthers, but the town hall does not does not seize it”, denounces PAZ.
A petition opened by the association is still in progress and has collected more than 19,300 signatures to date.
