“No, I didn’t miss the bus”

Bashir Abdi received the Spike d’Or for the fifth time in his career.

He owes it to his silver medal won in the marathon at the Olympic Games. The Silver Spike returned to Alexander Doom. The latter won gold in the 400m at the indoor Worlds in Glasgow and at the Euro outdoors in Rome. The Bronze Spike is for Eliott Crestan, who broke Ivo Van Damme's Belgian record over 800m and reached the semi-finals at the Paris Games.

“No, I didn’t miss the bus,” a sick Abdi smiled in a video message about his absence at the ceremony. “It was not an easy year for me, which started with an injury. At some points it even seemed that I would not be able to participate in the Games, but fortunately everything returned to normal just in time. I I am very happy to have added a second Olympic medal and a new Spike d'Or to my collection.”
