After a turbulent summer, where he was sent back to the U23s, Loïc Lapoussin is back at the Union. The left piston confides in his image as a party animal.
“People who really know me won't say anything bad about me” declares Lapoussin in The Latest News. “I have been playing at Union for four years, I have played in the European Cup in recent seasons and I have almost never been injured. Who decides whether I behave like a professional or not?”
Lapoussin emphasizes that football remains a source of pleasure for him: “Everyone has their own goals. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo: he always wanted to be the best in the world. This is not my case. I just want to enjoy. For me, football remains the same as in my youth: throwing the ball in the air and playing according to your abilities.”
However, he admits that his lifestyle can sometimes be hectic: “Everyone knows that I am a bon vivant. Yes, it happened that I didn't come to training fresh. But why should I deprive myself of that? Ultimately, it’s the pitch that speaks.”
I didn't think I deserved to be treated this way
This summer, however, has been tough for the Malagasy international. He describes the Union's decision to send him to Core B as a shared responsibility, but still feels incomprehension: “I didn't think I deserved to be treated that way after everything we had been through together . But that's in the past. I came back with good intentions.”
Lapoussin admits to having adjusted his behavior: “I'm getting a little older, aren't I?” he smiled. “The image of someone who goes out a lot is not positive. I still like to go out on a day off, but not during the week like before. I choose my moments better and I have learned to dose them.”
With his return to the A team, Lapoussin wants to prove that he is valuable for the Union. “Ultimately, it is on the pitch that I want to show myself as I am,” he concludes. He seems to have understood the message: since his return, the Malagasy has been confusing on his left side.
