Fortunately, the premises were empty and no casualties were reported. The large motor skills room, with a surface area of 80 m², was however devastated by the flames, despite the very rapid intervention of fire fighters from 6 a.m. to bring the fire under control.

Even if the intentional nature of the fire, which would be located in the center of the room, seems to be the most plausible hypothesis, the mayor remains cautious: “We rely on the gendarmerie investigation, explains But if it is intentional and if we find the person responsible, we will not let anything go unnoticed. Any degraded public property requires compensation from the person who degrades it.

All safety steps were then scrupulously respected, and the firefighters, after ventilating the premises, took measures to define the carbon monoxide level twice during the day on Tuesday. It was only after these checks that elected officials and staff were able to enter the school establishment.

This, closed since November 26 for safety reasons, could reopen on December 3 if the security commission, intervening on Monday 2 in the morning, validates this reopening. “We will not enter the school if the security conditions are not met, guarantees the mayor. The priority is the children.” Their reception will only be possible because part of the kindergarten was spared from the flames, thanks to the rapid intervention of the firefighters.

In the meantime, clean-up operations continue. The objective is to isolate the burned parts and allow full operation of the school (classrooms, nap rooms, catering) in order to disrupt the daily life of the students as little as possible. During a working meeting held Wednesday morning at the town hall between Thierry Suaud, the municipal teams, representatives of National Education (the IEN and Mr. Pecoste, director) and the Muretain Agglo, a point The situation was investigated and solutions were found. During this short period of exceptional closure, limited reception was offered at the Pierre and Marie Curie school for parents unable to look after their child.

Even if all the attention of the municipality is currently focused on young students, the mayor says he is dismayed by this “revolting and sickening… even ten times more so if it turns out to be intentional” event.
