After examining the various results of all the commissions, the Constitutional Court proclaimed this Friday the final results relating to the referendum of November 16, 2024. According to the overall results, the “Yes” vote more than won. 91.64% of the votes obtained were in favor of the adoption of the new Constitution. The Ministry of the Interior had communicated a rate of 91.80%.
Dieudonné Aba’a Owono, the president of the Constitutional Court, who made these final results public during a solemn hearing also announced that the referendum vote recorded 853,028 registered, less than the 868,115 announced by the authorities. The number of voters (462,166) and votes cast (416,382) was also revised downwards compared to the government figures.
On the other hand, the participation rate was revised slightly upwards, i.e. 54.18% instead of the 53.54% of the Ministry of the Interior. Many, like Professor Albert Ondo Ossa, former presidential candidate in August 2023, welcome these results as a failure for the military in power.
