The Quai Branly museum takes us into a sparkling universe, one where gold meets textile art. Travel from the Orient to the land of the Rising Sun with the Au fil de l'or exhibition, on view from February 11 to July 6, 2025.
All that glitters is not gold… Except in the exhibition Along the way of goldpresented to Quai Branly museumfrom February 11 to July 6, 2025. This great exposition tells the long love story between this precious metal and men, and the way in which it is used in textile arts according to civilizations.
In the Maghreb, in the countries of the Levant, in southern Asia, in China or Japan… For millennia, men and women have adorned their habits, their jewelry, their golden accessories.
A precious metal often reserved for the noble and the rich, gold has fascinated humanity for nearly 7,000 years. THE artisans of each civilization have sought to shape and transform gold to add it to ornaments and fabrics of clothing. Symbol of wealthelegance, refinement, often linked to deities, gold is the star of metals.
Thanks to many clothes and models from different eras and different civilizations, the exhibition thus links fashion, history and technology. Kimonos, silks and embroideries from Morocco, festive dresses and traditional saris, embroidered costumes… These exceptional pieces reveal a lot of information on the know-how, customs, and beliefs of the associated societies.
To complete this rich (no pun intended) journey, the Quai Branly museum invited the fashion designer Chinese artist Guo Pei to exhibit several of his creations. Along the way, we can admire five new pieces and nine existing costumes; works that enter into dialogue and enhance the historical pieces presented in the exhibition.
Modehistory, civilizations from different continents: with this expositionthe Quai Branly museum should please many enthusiasts!
