The gatherings organized in Romans-sur-Isère will finally be able to take place, despite their initial bans by the prefecture which feared “significant disturbances to public order”.

The activists are exultant. The gatherings planned for this Saturday, November 30 in Romans-sur-Isère in memory of Thomas Perotto, the young man killed a year ago in the village of Crépol, may well take place. On the one hand that at the initiative of the small far-right group “Justice for our own”but also that of left-wing associations, which call for “resist against racist recovery”. The administrative court canceled this Friday the prefectural decree prohibiting these demonstrations. We were able to consult the decision rendered.

The prefectural decree stated that “the collective Justice for ours develops the thesis of Francocide and broadcasts discriminatory remarks against the inhabitants of the La Monnaie district, which has been widely designated as sheltering the perpetrators of the violence perpetrated in Crépol.. He also recalled “the punitive expedition carried out in this city by the ultra-right during the weekend of November 25 to 26, 2023 which gave rise to arrests”. Concerning the calls for demonstrations launched by the ultra-left, the prefecture feared the presence of people who “already illustrated in violent actions“. So many arguments likely to raise fears of disturbances to public order.

“A static gathering”

However, according to the court, the demonstration declared by the small group “Justice for our own” this Saturday “consists of a static gathering at Place Ernest Gailly, which is far from the Monnaie district, and the prefect does not allege the existence of calls to go to this district”. And on the ultra-left side, no “call to commit acts of violence” was not broadcast.

Furthermore, the court decision specifies that the prefect was unable to prove that he did not have the necessary police reinforcements. In total, according to projections, around 600 people are expected to join the “Justice for Ours” demonstration and 200 to the rallies launched by ultra-left associations.

The prefect of Drôme told the Figaro “to have taken note of this decision”.
