During a call with Volodymyr Zelensly this Friday, Emmanuel Macron denounced Russia’s “unacceptable logic of escalation” in Ukraine, hit by numerous strikes in recent weeks.
Emmanuel Macron spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this Friday, November 29, reports the Élysée. He denounced Russia’s “unacceptable logic of escalation” in Ukraine, which has been hit by numerous strikes in recent weeks.
“These strikes, the increased cooperation with North Korea and the irresponsible rhetoric that accompanies them, are part of an unacceptable logic of escalation on the part of Russia,” said Emmanuel Macron, according to the Élysée press release.
He also assured France’s “determination” to “continue to help Ukraine “as intensely and as long as necessary”.
The targeted energy infrastructures
After almost three years of Russian invasion of Ukraine, the conflict has been escalating for two weeks. On Thursday, Russia fired nearly 90 missiles targeting Ukrainian power facilities, plunging more than a million people into darkness in near-zero temperatures.
On Friday, Ukraine announced that it had been targeted by 132 Russian drones overnight, an attack that left one dead and eight injured. In the morning, Kherson and part of the neighboring Mykolaiv region were still without electricity, national operator Ukrenergo said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that Thursday’s massive strikes were his “response” to the Ukrainian army’s firing of American ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles against Russian soil. The Ukrainian army, for its part, announced on Friday that it had struck an oil depot in the Russian region of Rostov (south), without specifying what weapons had been used.
