“It’s a magical, fabulous moment,” says Sophie Michel with emotion. Tuesday November 26, 2024, the 59-year-old singer, based in Guilers, won the final of the 31e edition of the Tréteaux chantants organized at the Brest Arena.
Twelve candidates were in the running for the final stage of this amateur singing competition, open to people aged 50 and over.
“A wink”
Sophie Michel won first place with her interpretation of think of me by Luz Casal. “It’s a nod to my dad who died in 2004. This song appeared in his songbook. » Xavier Monéo, Brestois, originally from the Basque Country, was also animated by singing. “I always heard him sing. He was still singing the day before he died”recalls his daughter.
His victory is all the more beautiful as it comes 22 years after that of his father. “He won the Tréteaux chantants in 2002! », rewinds Sophie Michel, all smiles.
“A great experience”
“Singing is extraordinary, it relaxes and makes you happy,” says the energetic kinesiologist. She got into it late, at age 45, with the creation of the Ensemble de la plage au jardin. She is still part of it and has since joined the entire Plouzané music school.
Sophie Michel is therefore used to performing in public, but not in front of more than 4,000 people. “It’s a great experience and I'm going to start again! I will sing at the next edition.” Until then, “I will continue to improve.” And above all to have fun.
