The diffusion of Silo continues on Apple TV+. The post-apocalyptic series is still far from having revealed all its secrets and has just presented a character who could be important for the future. Absent from the first round of episodes, Solo could well help Juliette learn more about the immense underground infrastructures which shelter the survivors. After the simple appearance of his eyes, the mysterious character finally shows himself. But how long has he been locked in Silo 17? Warning spoilers for episode 3 of season 2.

Soberly titled “Solo”the third episode of season 2 of Silo evolves around the real meeting between Juliette and the locked man in the safe Silo 17. After surviving its cleaning, the heroine played by Rebecca Ferguson might have found a new ally in Solo. As the season opener showed, everyone in this infrastructure perished after a rebellion. Convinced that the exterior was healthy, thousands of residents ventured outside the Silo and died from the toxic air. The temporality of this scene has not been communicatedand Solo doesn’t really seem inclined to talk about the length of his confinement. The sole survivor of the Silo cultivates mystery, but Hugh Howey’s novel, which serves as inspiration for the series, could provide some answers.
On paper, Solo also exists and we are taught that he is 50 years old when his path crosses that of Juliette. Later it would be revealed that he had 17 years old when the insurrection took place. He has therefore lived in the vault for 33 years and rarely leaves it. If nothing indicates that the chronology of the novel will be applied to the letter, it must be admitted that this duration could add density to the characteras much as to emphasize the importance of the famous “syndrome” in the television world. Creation of the series, this illness which affects Billings among others, could be the materialization of the consequences of isolation on humans. His eye, of a strange color, could be one of the symptoms of this psychotic state. It would also be a way for the story to show what could happen to the new sheriff of Silo, and thus add even more tension to an already complicated situation within Building 18.
Was the exterior able to become livable again?
If three decades have passed since the inhabitants of Silo 17 went outside, the idea of cleaning up the atmosphere undoubtedly crossed the minds of the spectators. We don’t still don’t know the cause of this apocalypse which annihilated all forms of life, therefore the time necessary for nature to regain its rights, or even if this is possible. The deaths of Holston and his wife, still rather recent when Juliette faces the outside world, suggest that this is not the case. His combination matched with very good quality adhesive tape undoubtedly allowed him to to survive in a toxic environment.
Silo season 2 continues its broadcast on Apple TV+at a rate of a new episode every Friday. Ten chapters are on the program of this new salvo which should not conclude the journey initiated in 2023. We can hope that the series continues to provide us with answers over the weeks.
