Since the takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk in 2022, the platform has been renamed X and has undergone various modifications which have not necessarily pleased users. As a result, the social network is losing more and more users.
They are turning to alternatives, born from the desire to offer a space better managed than that of the billionaire. Among them, we find Threads (developed by Meta and linked to Instagram), Mastodon (open source) but especially Bluesky (developed by the founder of Twitter).
Anything new on X, to hide other things?
Last week, new features appeared on Elon Musk's social network. In a post on X, May Ly, developer of X, announces a series of new features.
Users now have the option to hide likes, shares and reposts (on iOS). This is an option that each user can decide, or not, to implement. This allows users to decide whether or not they want to see the numbers for each post.
Elon Musk also spoke on X about these new features.
“The display looks much cleaner when engagement numbers are turned off. You can always see the number of views if you are interested.”
According to the media Futurismthe arrival of this option is quite strange, and would above all prevent users from seeing the decline in actions on publications, and the poor health of the platform.
The Futurism journalist wonders about this sudden desire of Elon Musk to make the interface of the platform “cleaner”. Indeed, according to him, since 2022, the X teams have continued to add features which have invaded the interface and distracted attention, notably from advertisements.
At the same time, remember that the number of daily active users of Bluesky exceeded 3.5 million last week, with a peak of 300% during the American elections (According to Business Standard). And, last month, monthly active users reached 275 million (fairly close to 300 million X).
It must be said that the latest updates to the X platform have seriously harmed users, opening the way to new possibilities of online harassment. In addition, hate speech and content relating to sexual abuse of minors are regularly detected on the platform under “freedom of expression”.
In addition, just as it did with links pointing to Threads, X is reportedly studying the possibility of preventing external links from being inserted in users' publications.
