“We want to scream”: Yannick Alléno speaks after the verdict concerning the driver who killed his son

Antoine Alléno, son of the famous chef Yannick Alléno, died on May 8, 2022, violently hit by a car while he was on his scooter. At the wheel of the stolen vehicle was a man known to the police, drunk and under the influence of drugs… Antoine Alléno died instantly and his father has since tried to help the families of the victims who experienced tragedies similar to the one he crossed via the association he founded in tribute to his son. “We are unprepared for this kind of thing, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It’s a flood of very painful administrative procedures. Going to the morgue to see your kid, preparing the funeral, receiving people… Everything collapses.” he explained last April on Europe 1 in Media culture.

Yannick Alléno comes out of the silence

Thursday, November 28, the verdict of the driver tried for aggravated manslaughter at the Criminal Court was handed down. The motorist was sentenced to seven years in prison and the president of the court stressed “risky behavior multiplied in a reckless manner” of the driver of the car to justify the extent of this penalty. Faced with this announcement, Yannick Alléno broke the silence on his Instagram account. In the caption of a photo where we can see him in the kitchen, he wrote: “Even on nights when we want to scream, show must go on for him! For everyone else! Those who stay“.

Antoine Alléno's best friend confides her grief

In an Instagram story, the chef shared the very moving publication, in English, from a former colleague of his son. Indeed, a certain Anisa Usmanova who works at Pavyllon by Yannick Alléno wrote under several photos and videos where we can see her in the kitchen with Antoine: I am still searching for the right words since October 31 – the day of the trial. And even today after the judge announced the verdict… I can't find them. I'm angry. And I don't want to be. I want to stop this burning feeling in my chest, but it's so unfair. I'm not a lawyer, I'm not a judge, I don't know the laws as well as they do, but I'm hurt.”

“We lost Antoine. An innocent human being was killed. We went through a nightmare. It's still there, 2 and a half years later, it still hurts. I have nightmares at night all the time. 7 years old . 7 years for stealing the car with violence and without a driving license, drunk, for almost injuring several people on the way, speeding up to 120km/h… and killing Antoine almost killing me (honestly,. I don't understand not how I survived) And then… trying to flee the crime scene twice. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm a human who lost his best friend. wrote the bereaved young woman.

Then to conclude: “I think the justice system can do a damn better job than letting these men go home tonight and not straight to prison. And not for 7 years, but again, that's just my opinion“. An opinion perhaps shared by Yannick Alléno since she therefore re-shared the young woman's publication.
