The vagueness remains regarding the future of Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City. Will he be heading towards an extension or rather towards a departure?
Recently, Pep Guardiola gave a clue about the future of Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City. Not really a surprise, however: according to the Catalan, if the Belgian stayed with Skyblue, it would be because he felt he was still capable of bringing the best of himself (read here).
But what is Manchester City’s position on this issue? De Bruyne reaches the end of his contract in June 2025, and he of course has a juicy contract. But the Mancunian club probably wants to avoid finding itself caught off guard, in order to prepare for the post-KDB era if necessary.
According to The Athletichowever, there is no doubt on one point: City leaves the door wide open for their playmaker. “He only has one word to say”, assures the English media, and De Bruyne will extend for a season at Manchester City.
Only one season, however, until 2026, because the club’s policy is clear: players of this age (De Bruyne will be 34 next June) are not offered more than one year of extension at a time.
If Kevin De Bruyne decides to leave Manchester City, one thing seems almost certain: it will be for a final challenge that is both lucrative and “restful”, in a championship with a pace significantly lower than Europe’s crazy schedules. MLS (San Diego) or Saudi Arabia would then hold the rope.
